Randy Hunter
Lead Pastor
What do you do?
I’m the lead pastor at St. Andrew. But don’t take that to mean I’m the only leader! Hundreds of men and women lead us in many ways. As lead pastor, I’m the primary preacher for our worship services, teacher of First Group and a servant to the other called workers. I also serve on the Board of Directors, responsible for the entire ministry of St. Andrew. It’s my role to help the dozens of St. Andrew elders and visitors who provide individual spiritual care for members of St. Andrew.
How did you end up at Westside Christian School?
In 1985, a bunch of seminary professors and leaders in our church body asked the Spirit where to put this graduate named Randy Hunter. He told them, “St. Andrew, Middleton.” The church was about 10 years old, had about 75 members and had just built their first building. That’s how I got here. That was a few years ago. But other than the gospel, most everything else has changed about St. Andrew. We’ve grown, relocated, staffed and re-staffed, organized and re-organized, launched a satellite and brought a satellite home, started new ministries, and have been blessed with opportunities to serve more and more people, In addition, my roles in our national church body have given me the chance to serve and learn from hundreds of other churches.
What is your theme Bible verse?
“I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16
Tell us about your family
Karen (Janke) and I have been glorifying God together since 1984. In that time, he has blessed us with the gift of family. Our oldest son, Phil, and his wife, Andrea, serve as pastor and wife at Bethel Lutheran Church in Menasha, WI. Our daughter Paige and her husband Jon live in Chapel Hill, NC, where Paige is a Physician Assistant and Jon is a resident at the University of North Carolina. They worship and serve in the ministry of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Raleigh. Our youngest son Jackson is a student at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary and also serves as a Cavalry Scout in the Army National Guard. God-willing, he will graduate from the Seminary and serve as a pastor in 2019.
