Kim Gnewuch
3rd Grade, Music Theory
What do you do?
I’m a teacher in the elementary grades at Westside. Since praising God through music ministry is a passion of mine as well as equipping others to praise God through their musical gifts, I also direct the Praise Choir, a youth choir made up of 4th through 8th graders, who sings for worship monthly at both St. Andrew and our Wednesday chapel services. I also teach music to the middle grades, and part of the way I am blessed to serve Jesus is from behind the piano with a music team each month.
How did you end up at Westside Christian School?
God led me to accept a call from St. Andrew back in 1999 from Zion Lutheran School in Columbus, WI, where I was assigned after graduating. While teaching at Our Redeemer for two years, I had the privilege of helping to plan the curriculum for Westside Christian before we opened in 2001. As our enrollment increased, I went from teaching grades 3-5 in one classroom, to teaching two grades at a time, and now 3rd grade is large enough that I am blessed with that single grade level of students.
What is your theme Bible verse?
For my own life: Romans 8:37-39: “We are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
In my classroom: Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Him (Christ) who gives me strength.”
Tell us about your family
I am the youngest of six children in my family. Babysitting all of my nieces and nephews gave me a love for young children. This love of children and urge to share God’s love with His precious lambs led me into the teaching career.
What is your favorite vacation destination?
I don’t think I have a favorite vacation spot, but I’ve enjoyed seeing various locations throughout the country that have historical significance.
